the National Jamboree.
Drake was selected by
the Heart of Virginia

The National Jamboree is a 10 day event that is held once every four years and held on 10,600 acres near the New River Gorge Recreation Area. Some of the activities offered at the National Jamboree include: Stem Quest for High Technologies, State of the Art Exhibits, Numerous Merit Badges, Leadership and Citizenship Skills, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Rock Climbing, Scuba Diving and Zip lines.
He obtained the rank of Life scout (the last rank before becoming an Eagle Scout) in March 2017. Drake’s current plan is to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout by the summer of 2018 at the age of 16. Senior Regent Message

Hello Co-Workers,
As we enter a new year here at the Moose I would like to share one of my goals for the upcoming year as senior regent. The one thing I have noticed in the 2 years I have been a member is that there are only a few members that come regularly to the Wednesday meetings and I would like to see our numbers increase. If there is a specific reason you aren’t attending let me know and I will do everything I can to make it so you will want to come to the meetings. The meetings are every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month and last between 45 min and an hour and on the 1st Wednesday we have refreshments after the meeting so everyone can talk and get to know each other. I hope to see more of you at the meeting! We also need to increase our membership numbers, and while we have applications coming in some of them do not have signatures on the back and we need those for the application to be reviewed so please make sure the applicants are signing before turning them in. I hope to have a lot of fun this upcoming year and am excited to be here as your senior regent if you have any questions or comments you can call me I may not answer if I am at work but you can leave a voicemail and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

If you have been in the social quarters lately, you have noticed the "plastic wall", blocking the bathrooms. Construction has been underway, in the sewer line replacement, of both bathrooms. That part of the project is nearing completion, on the inside. New tile will then be put in both restrooms and a baby changing table added, to the women's restroom. Work will begin soon, on the outside lines running, from the restrooms to the sewer. The small side section of the parking lot, will be blocked off, until completion.
We heard your comments about Friday, Jan 27, regarding the change of music format. Our intent is to offer a range of music, for ALL our members, to enjoy. Therefore, we are happy to announce that on select Saturday's we will be offering a variety of entertainment venues, so watch your Facebook and announcements. Wednesday and Friday entertainment will stay, as you have grown to know.
Finally.....The BIG NEWS!!!!..after attending an electronic gaming expo, at the VMA State mid-year convention, in January, and conferring with the board of officers, NEW VTAB machines are coming!!!!! Their arrival should be within a few weeks!
Stay tuned and stay informed

Governor's Message
As the newest Governor of the Hopewell Moose Lodge, I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity. For many of you who have experienced life as a board member, you know this role can come with rewards & challenges. I ask your patience, and understanding for me as well as the entire Board of Officers as we grow into our positions. Although several Officers have previously served on the board, there is always a learning curve as we transition into a different position. Please be patient with us.
One of my first goals as Governor is promote a more positive attitude in our lodge with all our brother & sisters. I ask you to think before you speak and ask yourself if this comment could be said in a better way or at a better time. If you have ideas to present, don’t start off with "you need to..." or "Ya'll should...". Consider starting with something like, " maybe we can...".
If we aren't willing to contribute to lifting a brother up, then we may be the weight that is taking him down. Think before we speak, reflect on what we have to share & offer a positive response.
And now here is a brief version of the legend of the Locked Horns.
In the wilds of the northland two noble moose, leaders of their herds, met in deadly combat. Today their locked antlers are evidence of their battle as they lie bleaching on the plains… let us not be blind to the lesson of the Locked Horns.

Think of what your actions and words may really say about you. Be a brother that promotes the integrity of our lodge.
Brian Carpenter, Governor / MOOSE PROUD

They're back!  Our first Kids Movie Night of the year was a nice success.  Thank you to our volunteers and all the Lil' Moosers that joined us.  A great time was had by all, including me.  Even Tommy Moose made a special appearance with a gift for all the children in attendance.
Our next KMN, is scheduled for Friday, May 26 @ 7pm.  Movie of choice is.... Moana!
Bring your little ones to join us, and you can hang out too or enjoy dinner and our Social Quarter’s entertainment.  Feel free to let your little ones invite a friend also. As always, this is a free event for all and we'll be serving popcorn and soda (caffeine free). An adventurous Polynesian teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

Chris and Heather Strack are joining their church, Journey Christian Church, on a mission trip to Lighthouse Retreat in Destin, FL. At Lighthouse families battling childhood cancer are able to take a week off and reconnect the family unit. Chris and Heather will serve the families all week by cleaning their rooms, playing with the kids (can you say beach time!), getting to know the family, praying with them and for them, serving their meals, and the list goes on and on. One of the biggest ways we serve the families is through financial donations. The families accepted to go to Lighthouse Retreat don't pay a penny! That is where the Hopewell Moose Lodge come in! The lodge donated $750 to assist in their journey. The total cost is $5000.00 to send a family battling childhood cancer on this awesome retreat. The lodge offered to assist Chris and Heather with their travel but in true Moose tradition the couple feels it is their calling to burden the cost and vacation to provide relief for those in need. If you would like more information about Lighthouse Retreat go to lighthouseretreat.org. and checkout the website! ---Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

You heard me but you'll hear them far louder.  They are back by popular demand, The Hopewell Moose Lodge 2nd Annual Car and Bike Show.  Last year I was hoping for at least 40 participants but honestly expecting about 20 cars, trucks and motorcycles.  Well with the great help of our host, the Southern Knight Cruisers we had over 70 autos who participated.  This resulted in a donation to Fort Lee's Holiday Helpers of $3000!  What a great effort for a tremendous organization and very worthwhile cause.
This year we anticipate many more participants and with more vendors, children's activities and lots more beautiful cars, trucks and bikes.  I know many missed this event last year as it was the same day as the Massey Cancer Golf Tournament which is on a different date and sponsored by Williamsburg this year so I hope more members and guest will attend and enjoy these works of art and hear the story of the owners.  Several of our members not only participated but won trophies as well.
So, if you have a car, truck or motorcycle that you are proud of, bring it.  It's sure to be a great time by all young and older, guys and gals, and all while helping to raise money for those who do so much for us, our soldiers and their families.
This event is open to the public so even more can enjoy all that we'll have to offer.

~D.M. Ozmore

Congratulations to Franklin A. Brockwell!!! Brother Brockwell has attained 50 years of service in the Loyal Order of the Moose, and will shortly receive his new lifetime membership card. With sincere gratitude, we applaud your 50 years of dedicated service to our fraternity.

This past week, the WOTM helped the Easter Bunny celebrate with our children and seniors. Special thanks to our chairmen Marie Matlock and Mary Simmons for organizing both of these wonderful events. Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted, it couldn't be done without YOU!
On Saturday, April 8th, children had a pancake breakfast with bunny, games, prizes and an egg hunt in the park. Then on Tuesday, April 11th, we helped our seniors at the Health Care Center celebrate with refreshments, an Easter Bonnet contest, songs and gift bags for the residents.
If you are interested in helping with events like these, please contact ANY of the Women of the Moose.

VMA Membership Campaign for 2017 - 2018

Written by Calvin Green
 Published: 01 May 2017
Supporting members is something that has always been important to the Moose. So, it is no surprise that our newest Virginia initiative, the "VMA Membership Campaign" program, has drawn so much interest from Loyal Order of Moose members.
The focus of this program is on recognizing the support of members within our state with an emphasis on their ongoing work to sign up quality new members and re-enrollment of great former members. Our new VMA Membership Campaign starts on May 1, 2017 and runs until April 30, 2018. Just pointing out the highlights of this program year's campaign you can receive one year's free dues, earn a "Super Sponsor" shirt, and take part in winning $2,500 in cash prizes. And, District Presidents not to be left out, you can win one year's free membership and be included in the drawings for the $2,500, if you have a plus membership within your district.
